Tourism Minister Mr. Dilip Parulekar appeals to Union Minister for Railways, Mr. Suresh Prabhu to urge Indian Railways to operate passenger trains from Vasco to Dudhsagar as demands to visit Waterfalls increasing

Panjim, June 22: Minister for Tourism, Mr. Dilip Parulekar has appealed to Union Minister for Railways, Mr. Suresh Prabhu to intervene and request Indian Railways to operate trains from Vasco to Dudhsagar on a daily basis without unreasonable restrictions to enable tourists to visit and witness the glorious Dudhsagar Waterfalls.

Mr. Parulekar, in a communiqué to Mr. Prabhu has assured that Goa Tourism Department will co-ordinate and co-operate with the local district administration to ensure that all safety measures are in place and that lives of tourists are not endangered in any way.

It may be recalled that Dudhsagar Waterfalls was well connected by the South Central Railways. However last year, the railway authorities banned passengers from alighting at Dudhsagar falls citing safety reasons. The tourism minister has pointed out that with the outset of the monsoons, tourists are expressing disappointment of not being able to visit and view the ‘Dudhsagar Sea of Milk.’

Mr. Parulekar has drawn the attention of the Union Minister for Railways that Goa is promoting Monsoon Tourism in a big way and tourists opting for monsoon holidaying in Goa wish to add Dudhsagar Waterfalls on the itinerary.

Mr. Parulekar further pointed out that the magnificent waterfall which cascades through the Western Ghats is very popular and has become a must visit after the success of the Hindi movie Chennai Express.

Mr. Parulekar said, “It is observed that after the success of this movie, hordes of foreign and domestic tourists are desirous of visiting this place, which is indeed a site to behold, especially during the monsoon season.”

He further said that the GTDC can also enter into a tie up with the South Central Railways to charter a bogie at a reasonable cost.

In his communiqué, Mr. Parulekar while presenting a strong appeal for passenger train halts at Dudhsagar Waterfalls has also expressed gratitude to the Railway Minister and the Railway Ministry for taking series of measures in the recent past to improve rail connectivity to Goa and to enhance the passenger’s experience. This, he said, is giving a boost to Tourism in the State.
